My work is a personal, psychological narrative via the interplay of formal concepts of Design. While the relationship of line, plane, color and surface are significant, I place great importance in the nature of the material. Wood, each variety and individual piece, reveals itself through its surfaces, its cracks and blemishes, its rich natural color, and its vulnerability. I often use fire to mitigate color or draw attention to the intersection of planes, and I frequently highlight natural color by painting adjoining areas.
My work is my journal. I lead an ordinary existence, but I respond to my surroundings, my society, my history, my frustrations, and my causes with a vision that is expressed in three-dimensional form.
